One of the most anticipated fashion events of the year, New York Fashion Week, kicks off tomorrow! Both seasoned and up and coming fashion houses will gather within Lincoln Center and the bustling streets of Manhattan to view and celebrate the newest designer collections. Here’s a look at some of the anticipated trends for the Spring/Summer 2014 season. You can view my article in full on SJ Chronicle.
One of the fashion capitals of the world, New York kicks off the Spring/Summer 2014 collections from the “Big Four,” followed by London, Milan, and Paris. Recent shows in Berlin, Cape Town, Madrid, Sydney, and Stockholm give insight into the trends we can expect to see in New York. Based on the latest lineups we’re anticipating crisp white and black to be featured predominately, along with fierce florals, nautical expressions, and glam-grunge.
Black and white has always been a solid foundation for designer fashion, and 2014 Spring Summer season fashion weeks in Berlin and men’s fashion weeks in London, Milan, and Paris, saw both crisp white and stark black from head to toe. We expect black and white patterns, stripes, and geometric shapes to flourish on the New York runways.
In addition to classic black and white, golden, earthy tones are expected to capture the essence of Spring. Crimson and cobalt have also been lighting up the international runways and could be seen in nautical stripes and boxy-cut designs.
We anticipate denim, plaid, and studs mixed with soft hues and floral patterns to give the 90s grunge look a hint of feminine glamour continuing the recent trend of throwback to the 90s.
Bright, bursting flower prints and mix-matched patterns decorated the Berlin Fashion Week runways. Lena Hoschek took florals a step further, creating an entire garden-themed runway. We anticipate blossoming Spring and Summer styles to continue with New York’s designer collections.
